Pepita,
1959
Herbert Leupin was hired in 1951 to create an advertising campaign for a children's grapefruit soda brand. A one-man advertising agency, he created the logo, the packaging and the advertising strategy which quickly turned around the unsuccessful brand. The multi-colored parrot in a sea of lush green and yellow became immediately identifiable - so much so that Leupin was asked to design a poster a year for the next 25 years for Pepita.
This success was not unusual for the artist. Leupin studied in Basel and then in Paris with Paul Colin, the renowned Art Deco master who discovered Josephine Baker. As the all-time leader for Swiss Poster of the Year awards, Leupin garnered nearly 90 honors over a 30 year span. Several of his designs for Pepita were so honored, always reflecting the refreshing, sun-kissed nature of the product.
