Mao as the Great Helmsman of State, salutes the Navy as he mans the steering wheel. At about this time, Mao consolidated his power and began the Cultural Revolution (1966 - 1976) designed to overcome bourgeouisie influence in the Party and in China. What began as a student movement quickly became a destabilizing mass movement of workers, farmers and soldiers aimed to create a new radical society to further solidify Mao's power.
