With the advent of affordable jet travel in the late 1950s and early 1960s, long-distance transportation became readily available to most Americans. This rapid growth in air travel led to an explosion of delightful new ad campaigns from TWA, United, BOAC and other airlines. One of the finest posters of its kind was David Klein's New York - Fly TWA, a dazzling abstract view of Times Square. Klein was an accomplished California scene painter who moved to New York after WWII and created a colorful series for TWA's global destinations that evoked the hipness of the Rat Pack era. Thisrare, small-format poster was first printed in the 50s featuring a Lockheed Constellation , but the image was so popular that it was reprinted in the 1960s depicting a jet to reflect the era's strides in aviation technology.
