"The Abundance of shells is the guarantee of victory" - the subtext of this fine Russian WWI poster, produced the year before the Bolsheviks took power and sued for peace. Russia began the war with the largest army in the world but this did not translate into victory. Poor strategy, morale and a plague of logistical issues brought severe challenges by 1916.

This poster echoes a desperate situation - a factory in full operation through the night, a waiting truck to be loaded and on the road the minute it is filled with shells.
