The Matson Line is synonymous with the development of Hawaii as a tourist destination, beginning in 1882. The enterprising company began carrying supplies to the islands from San Francisco, and expanded to luxury cruise ships and top hotels on the island.
Matson's terrific advertising program included the work of Frank McIntosh, the leading cover artist for Asia Magazine. McIntosh's lush images of native beauties amidst natural splendor was a powerful tonic for winter-weary Americans. This beautiful menu card dates to shortly after WWII, when Hawaii began its explosion as a tourist destination. The item is complete with the day's menu. it is hard to find in such fine condition.
