50 Heller (Notgeld), 1920 ca.
Notgeld was often issued as an alternative currency in Austria and Germany during World War I due to rampant inflation. It was issued not by banks but by municipalities and private institutions. The paper currency further found favor as the metal used for coins was needed instead for the war effort.
